About Us

501(c3) OrganizationO’Sail, the Organization to Support the Arts, Infrastructure and Learning on Lake Gaston is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

O’Sail was organized to:

  • Raise funds by hosting fun-filled events and activities that entertain and benefit Lake Gaston residents and visitors.
  • Serve as a philanthropic resource to other non-profit organizations serving the lake.
  • Provide arts, infrastructure and learning opportunities for Lake Gaston residents and visitors.
  • Enhance the sense of community, friendship and lake awareness.

Fun Filled Events with a Purpose

the crossing - paddlersOur events are designed to provide enjoyment, fun, and entertainment while raising funds that are turned right back into the Lake Gaston community. We have no paid officers and we work extremely hard to find donations covering all aspects of our events keeping expenses to an absolute minimum. All this effort ensures that for each dollar raised, nearly the entire dollar is returned to the Lake Gaston community.

We Host three annual fund raising events:

  • Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner - 3rd Thursday every January, February and March

  • The Crossing - 2nd Saturday every August

  • Fall for the Arts - 4th Saturday every other October (biennial event)

Annually O’sail  has presented grants to other not for profits that provide services to the lake Gaston community.   These funds come from the 3 events that O’sail hosts.

As of 2015  the O’sail board has decided to have a more significant impact with our efforts.  By offering the grants every other year, we hope to use the funds from the two-year period to fund one major grant to one organization.    At this time we encourage all not for profits on the lake to start to research their needs for a one-time project.   More details on the grant requirements are being developed and he details will be released later this year.  O’Sail hopes that with larger grants, the impact will be more visible in providing support to our lake needs.

O’Sail is proud to have provided grants recently to the following non-profit organizations:

  • Citizens for Animal Protection for spay & neutering costs as well as a free rabies vaccination clinic.
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary for annual maintenance of their training facility.
  • KIPP Gaston College Preparatory school for kindergarteners to develop a garden.
  • Friends of Lake Gaston Association for equipment to document noxious weeds in the lake.
  • Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce to build the first Lake Concierge, an information kiosk to be built in the Food Lion Shopping Center.
  • Lake Gaston Fire Department for an external defibrillator and a portable suction unit.
  • Lake Gaston Water Safety Council to support their educational trailer, for state boating law signage at various boat landings, and handout cards for boaters.
